The Georgetown Commons Condominium was built by the Bert L Smokier Company in the early 1970s. The two buildings on the comer of Eisenhower and Hayes were the models and are part of our Association. The buildings on Fenwick Odd and Even were constructed first and closely match the models. When construction was started on the Glenbridge buildings, Smokier added basements to the ground level units, and direct access to the qarages for all but the ranch units, while keeping the same floor plans. The last of the Glenbridge units was occupied in late 1974.
While the intent had been to fill the entire area from Eisenhower to Esch with buildings similar to ours and to form one large condominium association, Smokier decided to stop building in 1974 because of the recession and high interest rates. The completed buildings became Georgetown Commons Condominium Association and management responsibilities were turned over to the co-owners in late 1975. The Association consists of 29 buildings each housing four units, and a maintenance garage.
About three years later when the economy improved, Smokier put in Winthrop, Bombridge, and the rest of Whittier and constructed different style buildings each containing three units. This new development became Georgetown Commons South and is totally separate from our Association, managed by the residents of those buildings.
Georgetown Commons Condominiums can be located off Hayes Rd near the intersection of King George Blvd and Eisenhower in Ann Arbor, MI.
